Home Electronics

The presence of electronic equipment in the home is almost universal in the developed countries of the world.  Indeed, in the USA the sight of laundry drying on a line outside is seen as a symbol of low status in a country where over 70% of households own a tumble dryer!  The current generation of young children are likely to grow up totally accustomed to being online during waking hours and having films, games and entertainment constantly available to them, not to mention having domestic appliances to perform every household task.

While many electronic appliances have freed people from the shackles of lengthy domestic chores, such as the washing machine, other appliances are less essential and more luxury, performing tasks that can be carried out simply and easily.  It is probably possible to buy enough electrical kitchen appliances, each performing a specific function, to fill up your kitchen so that you cannot get in there!  While these appliances may make enjoyable gifts it is patently not practical to have a machine for every task, from carving meat to popping corn, frying doughnuts to grinding coffee.

As technology improves and becomes more affordable there are more pieces of electrical equipment available for domestic purchase that were once only available industrially.  A garden shed in a large garden may now house a sit-on lawn-mower, electric rotavator, grass strimmer, shredder and leaf blower.  A dish washing machine is a common feature in a family kitchen and, most owners would say, entirely justified in an environment where everyone lacks spare time.
